All the times 2Baba left us in our feels
Tubaba is one of the most decorated and most successful pop acts in Africa.
Innocent Ujah Idibia, a.k.a Tubaba is one of the most decorated and most successful pop acts in Africa. 2Baba was born in Jos, he grew up in Makurdi and attended Institute of Management Technology in Enugu. It was there he teamed up with Faze (Chibuzor Orji) and Black Faze (Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo) and together they formed one of the most successful boy bands in Nigeria. The group broke up in 2004 and that was where Tuface’s solo career kicked off from. He released Face2Face album under Kennis Music. The rest they say is history. Here are some of our favorite songs by Tubaba
Rainbow– By the time this love song hit our airwaves, Tuface was already a huge pop star. He later teamed up with T-pain on the remix. The video was dedicated to his longtime girlfriend-babymama turned wife, Annie Idibia. The footage from their wedding was used as the official video for this song. And it got all of all awww-ing
Dance Floor is an energetic upbeat track off his Away and Beyond album. It was released under Hypertek music owned by the legend himself. The video which was directed by Godfather production with ameo appearances by Hakeem Kae-Kazim , 5Mics and Dammy Krane.
Ihe ne me– Ever the hit maker, this track was a club favorite on every part of the country. The video was a fun happy video with beautiful Ankara props.
Enter the place with Sultan Sultan- Phew! This song was the hottest thang back in 2010. It was the ultimate party song. A line from the song, make u no look Uche face later became a national slang.
Thank you lord– Tubaba took a moment from all the party jams to reflect on his life, to say thank you to his maker on this track. He sang in his native Idoma and Yoruba. It is a very mellow song that would get anyone lifting their hands in thanksgiving.
Ocho- I love this song because it is done almost entirely in Idoma. Like Tuface said in one of his YouTube comments, language can never be a barrier to good music. Ocho is the Idoma word for God. It is also a thanksgiving song.
Ifana Ibaga– from his first album Face2Face this classic track was released. Just because say I no finish school some people them they take me for a fool, Tuface sang about his dropping out of school to pursue his music, and life struggles. Many Nigerians could relate and so the track became a huge hit.
Ole– Ole is a Yoruba word for thief. Tuface called a girl Ole, she stole his heart away. He lamented how the girl has stolen his heart and wouldn’t even let him know his place in her life. Rapper Freestyle made the song even better when he delivered the third verse in heavy bars. It was the song young guys used to ‘toast’ girls back in the days.
Odi ya– This is another of our favorite songs from Tubaba. It is upbeat, every fast and done entirely in Idoma. We have no idea what Tubaba is singing (no one has bothered to translate for us) but when Tuface says Ele le le le le le le le o… we reply odi ya eh!
E be like say– Tubaba was involved in some mess recently over the protest he wanted to lead against the government over the terrible state of our economy, and some said he has no moral standing to criticize the government. Tuface has been singing about bad governance, he’s always been politically aware. E be like say is one of the songs where he sang against bad politicians.
These are just our favorites, what are yours?
