This week, we have compiled a list of very artsy events happening around Lagos this weekend for you. The events range from exhibitions, film screenings, talks and book exchanges. Look through and see what you can attend this weekend.
Entitled: Angels and Muse is hosting the installation of the short film Entitled @entitledthefilm by Adeyemi Michael @adeyemimichael which is open from Saturday 27th January, 2019 to Tuesday 29th January, 2019. This will be followed by “Artists Talk: In conversation with Adeyemi Michael” (Artist/Film Maker) @adeyemimichael “The role of film in projecting our narratives”. Adeyemi Michael is a Grierson and Al Jazeera New Horizon award-winning filmmaker/artist. His work deals with reimagining the African experience, social and criminal justice. Intent on carving out narratives that allow the stories he tells to have agency, nuance and license to be free from constraint. The talk will be hosted by Wana Udobang. Mark your calendars.
Film Screening: Be at Jazzhole for the screening of the influential ‘M’, considered by many film scholars to be a masterpiece of the early sound era, directed by Fritz Lang, one of the giants of cinema, in 1931. Venue is at Jazzhole Ikoyi, on Sunday the 27th of January from 4;30pm. Gate fee is N1,000.
Book Swap & Potluck Party: The First Wunmmie Benjamin’s Book Club’s Book Swap party comes up on the 26th of January the event is curated for all genre of book lovers and it is absolutely free but registration is required. To register, click HERE. Venue is at 9 Broad Street, Lagos Island and it starts from 3-6pm.
Young Contemporaries: This exhibition is still open at Rele Gallery. If you haven’t visited make plans this weekend to go see the amazing art works on display at 5 military street, Onikan, Lagos.
Film Sundays: Studio of Mode is hosting a free screening of Captaine Thomas Sankara. It is a portrait composed of archives of #ThomasSankara, president of Burkina Faso between 1983 and his murder in 1987. Ready to liberate his country and transform the mentalities of his fellow citizens, contesting the world’s political order and challenging the powers of his time, Sankara stands out strongly in the history both of Africa and of the world. Venue is 4, Olumo Road, Park View Estate Estate, Ikoyi. Time is from15:30 – 19:00
