When Michael Collins Ajareh, a.k.a Don Jazzy appeared on our screens in the early 2000s with his ex, D’banj we weren’t ready for the greatness this music genius was about to contribute to the overall growth of Nigerian Music. Don Jazzy is one of the most sought after producers in Africa. He has worked with many artists in the continent and abroad, and produced some of the biggest songs in Africa. Don Jazzy is also known to spice up his production with his voice and make occasional appearances in videos. He has more hits under his belt than any other producer in Nigeria. Here are some of the best works he has produced in no particular order
The Mushin to Mo hits album– This was the first album from the original black diamond, Wande Coal. Wande was no doubt the most talented act in the now defunct Mo Hits records. Don Jazzy managed his amazing voice in this classic album which is one of the best albums to have come out of Nigeria. Almost the songs in the album– taboo, Bumper 2 bumper, You bad, Kiss Your Hand, Se na like this, Who born the maga etc went on to be major hits.
The entertainer album– This was the last complete body of work the duo of D’banj and Don Jazzy worked on together before their public messy break-up. The entire album was a hit back to back.
The Curriculum Vitae album– Before the Mo’ hits crew broke up, they recorded one full body of work- the CV album. This album which was recorded in one year was the best thing in 2007. It had hits such as Move your body, close to you, Pere, Booty Call and many others. The entire album was produced by Don Jazzy
Oliver Twist- This was the song that finally made D’banj an African pop icon. Perhaps it is the biggest song don Jazzy has produced till date. It hit the roof and saw many International acts doing covers and remixes.
Tongolo– Both the original and remix of this song rocked Nigeria in 2004. Don Jazzy gave us a peek of what he was capable of, the beat was insane, it could heat any club/party 360 degrees hotter. Tongolo was the first huge hit song produced by Don Jazzy
Dorobucci– When Mo’hits crumbled, Don Dorobucci being the business man he is, signed some new artists, along with the old crew and formed Supreme Mavins Dynasty. Dorubucci, their first big single which he produced became a national anthem.
Pop something– This is one of Don Jazzy’s most underrated works. The song literarily pops! Ever been to a club and the DJ puts this song on?
Under G– It would surprise many people that Don Jazzy was the producer behind this 2010 hit Under G by Sauce Kid aka Sinzu is Sinzu.
Awww– Newbie and member of Mavins crew, Di’ja got her first hit single, Awww courtesy of the hit maker, Don Jazzy.
Ijoya- If you remember Weird MC, then you remember Ijoya. Ijoya was a national anthem back then, everyone was singing and swaying their hips to the rhythm of this mega hit. It was produced by Don Jazzy.
Ololufe– Don Jazzy strayed away from his usual pop style with Ololufe which was Wande’s first official single. The song got all of us in our feels back then. Love song of the year.
Surulere– No, it is not for the busy Lagos suburb. It is a song about life and patience in all things. The hit song was produced by Don Jazzy for Dr Sid, although Don Jazzy sang a huge part of the song.
Godwin– Godwin was the biggest song in 2015. Don Jazzy washed his hands and produced Godwin which is Korede’s biggest hit till date.
Eminado– When Tiwa was still a new face in the industry, she teamed up with the magic hit maker, Don Jazzy for Eminado. Eminado of course became a hit song, shooting Tiwa to the top of the music scene in Nigeria
