“I’ll publish my allowances and allocations if elected”- Banky W
Entrepreneur and Entertainer turned politician, Olubankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W has said that he will publish his allowances and constituency allocation if elected into the House of Representatives.
Banky W, who is running under the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) for the Eti-Osa constituency in the House of Representatives made this vow during a live debate on Monday at the Civic Centre, Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island Lagos.
He said that one of the biggest problems of governance in Nigeria is accountability and transparency, and he hopes to lead by example if elected.
“Most of us don’t know who our representatives are, talk less of their salary and allowances and constituency allocations that they receive every year most of the time to enrich themselves.
“How I plan to address it myself directly is first of all, I’ll publish what I earn as a legislator – my salary, my allowance, the allocation given to Eti-Osa, I will publish it.
“We will have town halls and an active constituency office to engage the community to say this is the allocation that we’ve received, this is what we intend to spend it on.” He said.
The debate which was organized by Media Room hub in conjunction with BBC and Pulse Nigeria, had Ibrahim Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Omotesho Bakare of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ferdinand Adimefe of Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) and Tessy Owolabi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
