Today we are celebrating Omoni Oboli- actress, script writer, director, producer and film maker.
The beautiful actress who just turned 40 is one of the major voices in the Nigerian film industry. She is credited with writing the screenplays for delightful films such as Fatal Imagination, Being Mrs Elliott, The First Lady, and Wives on Strike, and Okafor’s Law
Omoni studied digital filmmaking at the New York Film Academy
Her brilliant film making has won her many awards such as the award for Best Actress Narrative Feature at the Los Angeles Movie Awards in 2010, the award for Best Actress at the Harlem International Film Festival, the Big Screen Actress of the Year award, at the 2014 ELOY Awards. In 2015, Omoni was awarded the Sun Nollywood “Personality of the Year”
As her career took flight, Omoni Oboli set up a charity organization, “The Omoni Oboli Foundation” to bring relief to the plight of the less privileged women and children in Nigeria. The foundation has embarked on a number of projects to feed poor children.
As part of activities to mark her 40th birthday, Omoni released her debut book titled The Stars are Ageless. She also opened a soup kitchen in honour of her late mother.
The soup kitchen is a feeding outreach program which is an initiative of The Omoni Oboli Foundation. On their first outreach, the team fed over 1200 children yesterday in Makoko, Lagos state.
