Yemi Eberechi Alade simply known as Yemi Alade is a Nigerian song writer and Afropop singer. She was born in Abia state on March 13, 1989, to James Alade Helen Uzoma. She has a degree in Geography from the University of Lagos.
Yemi Alade also sometimes referred to as Mama Africa (she released an album in March 2016) has a style and vibe that makes the name befitting. She made her debut into music with an all-girls music group and gained prominence after winning the Peak Talent Show in 2009. Yemi Alade is best known for her hit single “Johnny” a sensational creation that became an international hit topping music charts in Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Liberia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and the United Kingdom.
Our vivacious Mama Africa has performed in many countries of the world and either partnered or shared stages with the likes of Mary J. Blige, Shina Peters, M.I, Wizkid, Becca, May D, Waje, Bez and Yemi Sax.
She worked with M.I, Waje, Timi Dakolo, and Burna Boy in singing the theme song for Port Harcourt , the UNESCO 2014 World Book Capital, as part of a project urging young people to read and stay in school. From when she appeared in the music industry in 2015, she has been nominated at least 13 times for musical awards but in Nigeria and internationally and has won the MTV African Music Award as the Best Female music performer twice.
