Yahoo Messenger to shut down on July 17
Yahoo owner, Oath has announced that the iconic Yahoo Messenger will be shutting down after 20 years of existence. Although no reason was given for the move, it is, however, obvious to pinpoint the dominance and huge popularity of Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, WeChat, WhatsApp and a number of other IM apps as a deciding factor.
Even though Yahoo Messenger has lost its relevance in the past few years, there is no denying the fact that it was one of the first instant messaging apps many of us interacted with.
According to Oath, all current users will be migrated to Yahoo’s new messaging app, Squirrel. Also, users will be given six months to download their chat history, before the servers are made unavailable to the public
We will remember Yahoo Messenger for its cool chat IDs like; kenny01, SweetJane4real, Micheal2002.
